This month your club presented the usual array of great events for all to enjoy.
Whether you are into motorsport, group runs or social outings your club has offered it all.
A slight twist to the usual Sunday runs was the Brisbane chapter doing their run on a Saturday. This change was due to the normal run day Sunday falling on Mother's Day. Steve wisely decided that family is more important than a morning run, and the large number of members that participated reinforced the wisdom of this decision.
The weather continued to play havoc with a few of the monthly runs being affected by the rain. I have been told that there is a specific speed that you have to maintain to keep the rain out with the top down but I’m not sure that works for a 6 ft 2 bald man.
Your club has a small but dedicated group of volunteers who help to organise all of the events for you each and every month. These volunteers range from those in elected positions and those that just help out because it’s what they do. I would like to introduce to you the committee, other elected positions and call out several of the club members who, without being in a formal position, contribute to the club.
I would like to dedicate this rapid rundown to acknowledge the hard working people within the club who make the club tick:
-
President: - Me (Mark Spits). Member since 2020.
-
Vice President:- Vacant.
-
Secretary:- Jamie Thorburn. Member since 2021.
-

-
Brisbane Chapter Leader:- Steve Hodgson. Member since 2018.
-
Sunshine Coast Chapter Leader:- Ivan Schindler. Member since 2021.
-

-
Darling Downs Chapter Leader:- Andrew McDermott. Member since 2023.
-
Motorsport Chapter Leader:- Henri Van Roden. Member since 2000.
-
Communications Officer:- Bill Dunk. Member since 2019.
-
Membership Officer:- Queen Col Anderson. Member since 2017.
-
Regalia Officer:- Lori Davis. Member since 2019.
-
Magazine editor:- Eric McColough. Member since 2018.
All of these people have put their hands up to help run the club that we all enjoy. As a club member I would like to thank each and every one of them for the work that they do. As regular club members we may not see what they do on a day to day basis, but believe me, they do a great job and are dedicated to improving the club.
If you think that you would like to be more involved in the club, there are lots of ways to participate. It could be at a chapter level by putting your hand up to lead a group on a run, or be a tail end charlie. I'd like to encourage you to have a go at planning a run, its not a hard job and is actually fun. Each chapter has multiple events that need organising every month. Talk to your chapter leader about helping.
Your club needs you to get involved.
I would like to welcome our newest chapter leaders:
Andrew McDermott, who has volunteered to lead the Darling Down chapter. Thank you Andrew.
Ivan Schindler who has volunteered to lead the Sunshine Coast chapter. Thanks Ivan (and Marg).
There are also two people that I would like to acknowledge this month as champions that are not in any official positions but continue to turn up and help the club in any way they can.
George Christofis and Bruce Scarborough thank you for your continued contribution.
Macs Bridge:
By now I’m sure that most of you know of the Macs Bridge Classic car and air display being held at the Caboolture airfield on 6th July. Your club is part of the organising committee and needs your help.
We are still looking for volunteers for the Sunday of the event. The main jobs involve entry gate workers and marshalling of cars for visitor parking and exhibitors.
If you would like to help, please go to the events page in the club calendar and register.
Thanks for reading. I hope to meet you on a run soon.
Stay safe,
Mark Spits
