CURRENT NoT MEET EVENT 2019
NotMeet XII: 2019: Glen Innes, Friday April 19 to Monday 22
Continuing in the tradition of holding NotMeet at Easter in the non NatMeet years, 2019 sees us returning to the Celtic Country of Glen Innes in the NSW New England Highlands. Hooray! (Peter)
The NSW and Queensland Clubs join to spend the long weekend cruising some of the great roads of the New England. There are lots of man-made and natural attractions in the region to ensure you have a great time. For “great”, read “scary” (Peter)
The first organised Run will officially kick off on Good Friday, April 19 at 0930h.
Our accommodation in Glen Innes is at the New England Motor Lodge. The owners are eager to look after us in the excellent fashion to which we have become accustomed. There is a choice of different grade rooms plus meals options - dinner each night (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and a breakfast each morning (Saturday, Sunday and Monday). We have yet to outlive our welcome, then, Stephen.
Each Club will organise their trip to the motel, as ever.
On Friday evening we have a group dinner in the restaurant to catch up with our NSW comrades, tell the usual lies and drink in that comfortable bar area by the fire.
In 2017 this is what followed. It is a ‘taster’ only for the Runs that Stephen is planning.
Saturday we cruised to Ebor for a BYO morning tea at the Falls. We then headed down the Corkscrew through Nymboida to the river city of Grafton for lunch at the Crown Hotel overlooking the Clarence River. The return route was up the Gwydir Highway with an optional short stop at Raspberry Lookout. BYO afternoon tea was advised - and followed.
Saturday evening we wine and dine in the restaurant with some activities for your amusement.
Sunday featured a pleasant drive to Inverell where we stopped at the Visitors’ Information Centre. The centre features a collection of local gemstones and historic photographs. Café available or BYO in the grounds. We then continued to Copeton Dam and down to Bingara for lunch. After lunch we toured the historic Roxy Theatre and Café. We returned to Glen Innes via Delungra and Inverell (303km).
On Sunday evening we always return to the restaurant for dinner and the Interstate Turtle Racing Challenge. You had to be there …
On Monday we say our goodbyes, collect the winnings from the racing (in our collective dreams!) and push off back to Qld. So far, we haven’t planned either the to or from routes for this.
